Watchman: Gilad Shalit

23rd October 2011, hej

It seems all the world leaders have an opinion on the Shalit deal. The Jerusalem Post reports that the Shalit release was heavily covered in foreign media (Jpost). To those watching, there are some points to note from the perspective of a Bible student.

It is amazing precisely how emotive and how remarkable an event this was. There are many individuals reported as suffering, yet this one beyond reason made headlines,

Drucker told Israel's Hebrew-language Marker, "The media went bankrupt. It behaved emotionally, crazily and irrationally. This included Channel 10. It was psychosis...
"They crafted a meme that Gilad Shalit is the son of every Israeli, a child. But Gilad is a soldier, duty-bound to defend his country knowing he may have to pay the price. A captured soldier is not a private matter. It’s a matter for a sovereign government." INN

This is reporting an unusual spirit. A Bible student might take note, and ponder why.

In a remarkable curiosity the JPost juxtaposed the UN with Britain. We see Britain assuming again a lead role in world events as we might expect as the merchant nation of the Daughter of Tyre revived after 70 years. But even more remarkable is the deliberate delusions evident in what they are reported to have said. Ban Ki moon is quoted first,

"I am very encouraged by the prisoner exchange today after many many years of negotiation," Ban said. "The United Nations has been calling for (an end to) the unacceptable detention of Gilad Schalit and also the release of all Palestinians whose human rights have been abused all the time." JPost

As the Palestinians released look well fed, the only human right they lost was liberty. The BBC lists what they did and why they were locked up, or why their 'human right' to freedom was taken away. Many were multiple murderers. Ban Ki-moon might be alluding to the release of all Palestinians from Israeli rule, or influence, but to achieve that six million Jews, including many who escaped persecution, need to be taken from the earth.

Cameron also said he thought the Shalit deal was encouraging for peace,

British Prime Minister David Cameron also welcomed Schalit's release, ... “I know that people across Britain will share in the joy and relief felt by Gilad Schalit and his family today, he said. "I can only imagine the heartache of the last five years, and I am full of admiration for the courage and fortitude which Schalit and his family have shown through his long cruel and unjustified captivity."
Cameron congratulated Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and everyone involved for bringing him home safely. "I hope this prisoner exchange will bring peace a step closer," Cameron added.
“Britain will continue to stand by Israel in defeating terrorism. We remain strongly committed to the cause of peace in the Middle East – with Israel and a Palestinian state living side by side in security. We will continue to work for direct negotiations to achieve that end,” he said. JPost

Cameron must not have read the BBC commentary when the deal was first announced,

So the prisoner exchange deal does not make a peace deal more likely.BBC

Cameron knows the deal was with Hamas who run Gaza, a Palestinian state side by side with Israel which has failed to live in peace with Israel, mainly due to its desire to wipe Israel off the map and claim all the land of British mandate 'Palestine.' Peace is less likely as it has emboldened the violent.
JPost reported that according to Hamas this was not about peace but a victory in war,

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal on Tuesday night called the deal to exchange Gilad Schalit for over 1,000 Palestinian prisoners a “great achievement.” “We are happy with this great achievement and we thank our God for that. But our happiness is mixed with sorrow because we were not able to gain the freedom of all prisoners,” Meshaal said from Damascus, speaking in a televised speech.
Hamas presented the prisoner exchange agreement as a “historic victory,” saying Israel has accepted all the demands of the captors.JPost

The BBC also notes what Hamas was thinking, and it wasn't peace. For them this was an action and the fruit of war,

Hamas wants a show of force, but many believe they have now played their trump card by handing over Sgt Shalit, our correspondent says. BBC

Iran's leadership says it was the fruit of war.

Ahmadinejad said the triumph of releasing 1,027 Palestinian terrorists for the release of the young Jewish soldier was the "fruit of strong and continued resistance against the Zionist regime…" he continued, "No doubt this is a great victory for the Palestinian nation and all Muslims and for freedom- and justice-seeking people of the world, and independent nations are as happy as the oppressed Palestinian people over this issue…"
Important to note, Ahmadinejad during the speech referred to Haniyeh, the chairman of Hamas as the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority. The knife is wedged in the back of Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah who is recognized in the West as the true chairman of the Palestinian Authority.INN

If that is so then this deals a blow to the PA's UN bid also, which to a Bible student is significant as Ezekiel 38 does not indicate an Arab state on the mountains of Israel, but rather Jews living in security. As Egypt's Muslim brotherhood backs Hamas, Egypt now won't be of any use to the PA or the UN 'peace process'. If Hamas feels strengthened, it might be to please Iran just now.

in recent months, according to intelligence reports, Iran has reduced funding to Hamas. According to Reuters (August 21) "…diplomats cited Iran's displeasure over Hamas' refusal to hold rallies in support of Tehran's ally, Assad, in Palestinian refugee camps in Syria after an uprising against his rule. Hamas' leadership outside the Gaza Strip is headquartered in Damascus."

This very fact of Iran's displeasure with the PA Fatah's UN bid might have given Hamas more reason to strike a deal now .

On the back of the deal, as Israel is shown negotiating with Hamas, Moscow invites in Hezbollah from Lebanon,

for talks on developments in Lebanon and the region INN

The power of Israel's enemies is increasing.

Polls in Israel indicate a consensus that the deal harms Israel's national security, but also near total agreement that they value the deal (Glick http://www.carolineglick.com/e/2011/10/marketing-gilad-schalit.php). The polls reflect the high value placed on the life of a Jewish individual. Even those who love Shalit best know,

Noam said he "understands the price we are paying for Gilad's release," and that he can feel the pain of families who lost loved ones in terror attacks. JPost
Many of the Palestinians being released were serving life for killing Israelis with bombs and bullets.
Mr Netanyahu wrote a letter, released by his office, to bereaved Israeli families telling them: "I understand the difficulty in accepting that the vile people who committed the heinous crimes against your loved ones will not pay the full price they deserve." BBC

For some reason Israel was motivated now, possibly as it saw a window where Hamas was more reasonable and more in need of a victory, to make the deal.

One minister, quoted anonymously on Israel Radio said that the deal was not necessarily the best Israel could have gotten, but that “we all feel it is time to bring Gilad home.” INN

It may be that Israel saw the way to benefit by the divisions of their enemy. Of Ishmael the father of the Arabs it was written that “every man's hand is against his brother” (Gen 16:12) , and also “if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand” (Mark 3:25).

This a deeper curiosity. Is itnow also the time for Israel to release an informant among prisoners?

The heads of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), the Mossad and the IDF all expressed support for a prisoner exchange deal to free captured IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, during a cabinet meeting late Tuesday night. JPOST

For Israel it may be that out of Arab 'victory' Israel will snatch success. Israel saw the circumstances as an opportunity,

Netanyahu was quoted on TV news as saying "the window has been opened for an historic deal" to free Schalit, captured by Hamas terrorists tunneling under a border fence in June 2006.

The announcement came after last week, Palestinian and Egyptian sources denied an Al Hayat report which said that German mediator Gerhard Konrad was in Cairo for talks over a prisoner-swap deal.

In the book of Esther, Haman's own cunning and scaffold was the means of his own destruction (Esther 9:22).

Israel, unlike Norway's Government, might not be condemned for speaking with Hamas (in Biblical Hebrew 'hamas' means 'violence'), a terrorist organisation to achieve this release. Though in the past released terrorists have re-offended and more Israeli blood was shed. There was a another curiosity in that just as the deal was announced,

Faulty sewage lines burst and poured into homes on Friday. Perhaps symbolically, the deluge took place as the city prepared to welcome a flood of murderous terrorists being released by Israel. Ma'an quoted a (presumably official) press release that laid the blame at Israel's door, but did not say who had issued it. INN

Israel National News put this under articles about the Shalit deal. It may be suspected that they thought it was a Divine comment by the God of Israel, in which they may be correct.

But this Divine comment by the God of Israel is not as interesting as the most curious of all: Gilad Shalit in captivity is released with fanfare during Sukkot the time of harvest and as Rabbi Shlomo Riskin wrote, a time celebrating

the glorious redemption of the world! Riskin

So that one redeemed man bought with a large price back from the dead as a 'rebirth', so all the world may read of it, and all those Christians and Jews expectant of a Jewish Messiah might read of it and what his name says in Hebrew and also that he returns to Mitzpe Hila. In English it might translate as,
Gilad .. Shalit...........returns to.......... Mitzpe.. Hila
"a heap of witnesses” of the “warrior/ prince/ ruler" goes to the "lookout” of the “halo/crown"

We hope also to witness that soon the Jewish Messiah, Y'shua (Jesus) son of David will return. All those who desire this are to lookout for it, as the day draws near. Rosh Hashana to Sukkot traditionally, is the time of the blowing of trumpets and is thought to be the time of the Resurrection of the dead and the in-gathering of the servants for judgement.

And in addition it is confirmed that an ordinary soldier in Israel's army is equal to at least a 1,000 Arabs. But what has been proclaimed in this? We may consider Moses' song.

Deuteronomy 32:27-35  Were it not that I dreaded the enemy's provocation, lest their adversaries should misdeem, lest they should say: Our hand is exalted, and not the LORD hath wrought all this.'  (28)  For they are a nation void of counsel, and there is no understanding in them.  (29)  If they were wise, they would understand this, they would discern their latter end.
(30)  How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had given them over and the LORD had delivered them up?
(31)  For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.  (32)  For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter;  (33)  Their wine is the venom of serpents, and the cruel poison of asps.
(34)  'Is not this laid up in store with Me, sealed up in My treasuries?  (35)  Vengeance is Mine, and recompense, against the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that are to come upon them shall make haste.

While the world saw one chase 1,000 Jews over a history of persecution, it was already written that those who prevailed were to note it was only because the God of Israel allowed it. Now those days are over, and one Jewish solider again is equal to 1,000. Do the nations consider this is because the God of Israel has delivered those whose are cruel, for vengeance?

If Israel seek their God, and if we multiply the Israeli population by 1,000, six million Jews in Israel becomes six billion Jews. At that rate all the world may take them on and they still win, with the proviso, if they seek their God called "their Rock". At this stage all the world is backing the violent of the Middle East against Israel, as there is no peace possible, as the events surrounding the release rather indicate a build up to war. We may see one more remarkable victory to fulfil the conditions of Ezekiel 38 before, all the nations (the United Nations) of the world come against Jerusalem to battle.

The Jerusalem Controversy

When President Donald Trump stated that Jerusalem was Israel’s capital and that the USA would establish its Embassy in Jerusalem, there was an immediate outcry from the Arab nations. Nikki Haley, rebuked the UN for their consistent condemnation of Israel in the UN. Israel is surrounded by enemies and the Arab nations have started four wars since 1947 to destroy Israel and to drive the Jews into the sea.

70 years: Israel, Jerusalem, US & UN

When Trump announced US policy, the White House in line with Congress, was to now recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, he ended an epoch.
