The first point is that when God put the rainbow in the sky, he meant what he said to Noah. God promised to Noah in a covenant, “the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.” (Gen 9:12-15).
It is a record of eye witness events. In addition, there is a further communication which explains why this promise was broad ranging, saying there would be no widescale destruction of any sort.
This is what the Bible says is in God's heart:
While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. Gen 8;21-22
The rainbow is a beautiful enigma. No one to this day knows why light splits (it just does). Knowing how white light splits into a rainbow is not knowing why it does it. There is evidence that in the past the world was covered with water. We can know that for a fact. We also know there are deeper places in the ocean, than above land, and if the mountains went down in massive plate movement then the earth would be covered in water. We do know for a fact that the earth's massive plates can move. But it won't happen again. All things living were promised it.
Also it is written that the earth will endure, for as long as the sun,
They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations. (Psalm 72:5)
So why do some hear of Christians believing the earth will be destroyed? It might be because they haven't considered what Isaiah wrote was to happen.
The new heavens and earth
He speaks of a new heaven and earth that shall last forever, but let;s begin at the beginning...and get the context,
Who has heard such a thing? who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. (Isaiah 66:8)
Have we seen this? Before all the world a new nation born? Has the world heard of zionism? But there is more,
Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her: ..and be delighted with the abundance of her glory. For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: ye shall be borne upon her sides..As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem. (Isaiah 66:10-13)
Many have heard that in Revelation (the apocalypse) it is written God “gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.” (Rev 16:16). Isaiah in introducing the new heavens and earth says the same,
For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many. (Isaiah 66:15-16)
Then,
I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory. (Isaiah 66:18)
And then,
they shall bring all your (Isaiah's) brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD. And I will also take of them for priests and for Levites, saith the LORD.
For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh. (Isa 66:20-24)
So this 'new heavens and earth' will have horses, mules, chariots (gravity) and fire. And it will be the same place where the left-over from the earthly battle will be seen. There will be nations, there will be Jerusalem, there will be Jews and Gentiles. So what new about it? How is it that Christians become a new man?
That ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (Eph 4:24)
How will it be new?
For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that has not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed. (Isaiah 65:17-20)
And it shall be like Eden,
For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody. (Isaiah 51:3)
So after the battle, it's all good. Eden and everyone living long, peace and wonderful things on the same earth we know that was created to be 'good'.
All know the earth is being destroyed by human greed. Isn't the earth preparing now for world war? Won't it be good to have a world ruler who will love the poor and give true justice?
When will human rule end?
So when is it all going to happen? If they tell you a time for Christ's return to the earth they haven't read the Bible. We are not told! We are specifically told none will know the day or hour (Matt. 25:13, Mark 13:32)

The Revelation 12 Sign
There is much written about the sun, moon and planets aligning on in September 2017. We have many reasons for suspecting that 2017 will be a prophetically significant year, and the time of the Jewish feast of Sukkot could be more significant than any other time, but we need to understand the scripture before we consider the stars.
There is a great sense that the British are about to sail on the winds of change, and cast off the European shackles which have reduced trade and it's competitive edge. There is a reason why it's 'now', as it is spoken of in the Bible.
As the world becomes focussed on Israel and Jerusalem, with even nations leaders who remote from Israel having an opinion, we might consider that it is said that those who touch Jerusalem, touch God's eye.
