18 Sept 2019 Russian Volcano Turns Northern Sky Purple
The volcano Raikoke shot aerosols into the air in June, ones that Lars Kalnajs, a research associate at the University of Colorado, says are responsible for turning the sky a purple hue in different parts of the globe. The powerful eruption of the Raikoke volcano was captured by astronauts on the International Space Station on Saturday. The small island most recently exploded in 1924 and in 1778.
