I listened to Pauline Hanson's speech to the Canberra National Press Club of Australia. I was struck. Let's ignore politics, we here are unbiased. We listen to all relevant speeches. The statistcs were shocking. Lots of people go hungry or eat from garbage bins, or eat stale food. Many are homeless. I have seen the homeless, where I never saw them before.
What did Christ say of the time of his return?
As it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. (Luke 17:17, 28-29)
Many may think that the issue of Sodom and Gomorrah was sex. But it wasn't.
No, you don't know the Bible if you think so. This is Yahweh Elohim,
“Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.” (Ezekiel 16:49)
It is understood that Sodom was well off. The plains were well watered. Many were so well off they could swan about and be idle.
But Yahweh Elohim the God of the Holy Land, wasn't happy, not that they were idle, but that they didn't help the poor and the needy.
In 2024 the Salvation Army survey went mainstream – sort of.

More people are being pushed to new extremes, with some now dumpster diving just to put food on the table as cost-of-living pressures worsen.

Salvos declare cost-of-living emergency following survey findings
The Salvos surveyed 4400 people accessing its emergency food relief support with the findings contained in the Red Shield Report 2026 released on 27 May.
Along with 19 per cent of respondents saying they’d eaten food from rubbish bins, 60 per cent reported eating expired food and 91 per cent said they had skipped meals in the last 12 months, with almost a third (32 per cent) claiming to have done so on a daily basis.
The survey also found 35 per cent survived on only one meal a day and 67 per cent watered down food or drinks to make them last longer.
Children, especially, are bearing the brunt of the crisis, with 35 per cent of parents saying their children had gone to school hungry and almost 6 in 10 (59 per cent) of households with school-aged children saying kids had missed school because families could not afford transport costs in the past 12 months.
7News had it on tiktok. Short attention spans, that has to be a useless place.
So, Signs of the times. When the words of Christ went forth there was a great effort to feed, clothe and educate the poor and raise all out of ignorant poverty.
So is the cultural focus of the rich in Australia on rights of oddites of sex, but have they lost interest in the real matter of the poor and needy? Do the wealthy notice power costs? Not likely. The poor that use candles do.
Its Sodom. And Gomorrah
If active Christians become so small in number in a population, as to not be noticed, we can see that their role in caring for the poor and needy is reduced. The great power of the Salvation Army a century ago, for example, was it's numbers of ordinary people. The grateful ex-gambler and ex-drunkard was the new army to make even more ex-gamblers and ex-drunkards. In every denomination the new ex- recruits, made yet even more recruits. But now the ex's aren't evangelical. The Power of the Word as social transformation is muted.
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11)
If the word isn't going forth, then people are not being transformed;
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; (Eph 4:22-23)
More so that people reject the power of the Word, they then have to accept the good they wish for won't come, but rather that they live in the mess that rejecting God's way creates,
They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. (Proverbs 1:30-33)
There are no political leader saviours – the great work of God was done in the past by God-influenced people, We are not negative - this is a sign of this time, of the time of Messiah the new leader who is going to raise up a vast multitude of people to new life, as the stars of heaven, to reflect his Glory in all the earth. And he will hear the poor and needy.
For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper. He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy. (Psalm 72:12-13)
