Psalm 140 the News is not New

2nd April 2023, mgh

This Psalm of David is an analysis of the evil that David recognised as existing in mankind in his experiences. As we survey our world today we must be honest and consider whether David’s assessment of mankind corresponds to our world today.

He begins with the “evil” and ” violence” that he perceived.

Deliver me, O Yahweh, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man; Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war. They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah. (Psalms 140:-3 KJV)

Doesn’t the TV daily portray visions of violence, whether on the streets or among the nations at war, or, in the protests among the people in their own country? In many countries such as Pakistan, the USA, Brazil, Paraguay and Peru, how many elections can be seen as having true and accurate results?

Do we not have leaders today that might be justified today in uttering the following words of David?

Keep me, O Yahweh from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings. The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah. (Psalms 140:4-5)

Condemnation and lies have been cast upon those who want law and order, peace and prosperity for their country. Isaiah writes of those who call evil, good and good evil (5:20). Micah speaks of those who hate the good and love the evil (3:2). There is much sin shown it is 'loved' from the highest places.

We do not have any political bias, as servants of Christ. Many commentators have noted that for seven years Donald Trump years has fought against a corrupted bureaucracy government, called 'the swamp' due to the location of Washington in a wetlands. Having observed politics for some 60 years from the assassination of Kennedy we have not seen any President in the USA has ever before suffered the allegations, darts and arrows that Trump has endured. Court cases and comparative injustices abound. It now appears that the allegations of Russian influence, designed to destroy him were baseless. Recently there is another legal attempt to prevent his run for President again, with easily found political connections, establishing this is no equitable application of law.

Well might many of us today utter David’s prayer for Yahweh to save our world from those who would destroy it. In this world where hunger and poverty abounds in many places and where in other places life is burdened by day to day efforts to pay bills and expenses, there can be a feeling of hopelessness and fear for what the future may hold. Well might we plead like David.

Grant not, O Yahweh, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah. As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again. Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him. I know that Yahweh will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor. (Psalms 140:8-12 KJV)

There appears little hope in man to rule the world and bring true justice for all. In Psalm 145 David takes comfort in the hope of the future Kingdom that has been promised to the faithful who have placed their trust in Yahweh from all ages and all generations. He describes what is offered to man and the reverence that is due to our Creator, but what our ‘woke’ world denies.

I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Great is Yahweh and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness. They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness. Yahweh is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. Yahweh is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.
All thy works shall praise thee, O Yahweh; and thy saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. Yahweh upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.
The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. Yahweh is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. Yahweh is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. Yahweh preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of Yahweh and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever. (Psalms 145:1-21 [KJV)

These two Psalms describe the power of Yahweh and His expectation of his Creation which has descended to the denial of his power, the denial of his laws and moral standards and even of his existence.. They create their own gods and their own woke theories which will have a major impact on children of this generation.

When Donald Trump announced to his followers that he would run again in 2024, he said that he had been their Warrior and he had fought for them and what he had experienced was now coming upon them as the USA was becoming weaponised in its law enforcement upon its citizens. The USA’s 'political prisoners’ were now visible evidence to the people as were many inequitable arrests. There are many speaking of the loss of absolute freedom to speak without consequences against the ruling order.

For seven years he has endured every false accusation, dart and arrow that has been thrown at him and the failure of the systems of state, including the judiciary, so some on political basis were being treated with contempt and persecuted. We can now see in Congress some strength and determination that has been created in the twenty young men and women displayed in their committees, their speeches and their determination to work for the people and the nation. The new congress in many ways are now showing Trump’s legacy, the results of his guidance, encouragement and example he has given to fight against the corruption. Many people who know Trump are inspired by him and his strength in his conviction that the evil has to be destroyed.

Corporative government by the few with extreme wealth has penetrated and corrupted all levels of government, and some now arise speaking to challenge the system that has been destroying the country, even with the threat of a new communism or extensive government control. Fewer trust in God, and more than ever in Mammon.

We note that all those who support Israel are targeted by those who deny God. At Trump’s inauguration we may recall he carried two Bibles, one which his mother had given him. At his rallies he spoke of his desire to support Israel. The first Ambassador that he appointed was David Friedman, one of his Lawyers and well acquainted with the land and who had family in Israel. He recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and established the Abraham Accords. All his life, like his father, Trump has been a supporter of the Jews who seek their Messiah. Based on Bible prophecy we expect that at the end the leader of the US will align with the Saudis Britain and India and weakly defend Israel. Is there any other aspirant to the presidency who supports Israel as Trump? Or do they accept the current two state solution policy of the Clinton era (1990’s) and promulgated by the Obama/Biden administrations? This policy is against scriptural prophecy and further aims to destroy Israel.

To those who accept the Biblical importance of the role of Israel, there must be an end to the Two state agenda, as Israel must dwell safely on the mountains, Judea and Samaria (Ezek38). Israel has only a small portion of its ancient homeland – yet.

Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. Deliver me, O Yahweh from mine enemies: (Psalm 143:8-9)
