Possess, to occupy, to inherit, to take, to dispossess – the Hebrew is clear - it also means to utterly destroy what was there and seize it, even in the latitude of use - to rob others.

They needed to know, after such a long time, it was God's doing. This mandate is now over 100 years old, but it is still binding law.
