Britain's First Trade Deal: Who?

2nd February 2020, hej

Based on Bible prophecy in the days of the uncertainty of PM May's 'Deal' I wrote to then lead figures in Britain's Parliament that, “Britain will leave the EU. Britain will trade with all, not just the EU. The Bible labelled the merchant successor to Ancient Tyre a 'Harlot'- after 70 years of being stultified you are called to go about 'the city' and 'sing' (Isaiah 23).. and nationally sell yourselves!”

It does appear that there are some singing about Brexit, as they seek trade relationships. Here an Elvis imperonsator sings "Stick like glue.. but not with the EU"

Stars Insider lists some of the songs. starsinsider.com

This song features 'Jacky' as Britain Only Happy When She's Up On The Stage, but everyone is seeking an exit.

On the very day after Brexit I read Britain already finalised a post Brexit economic relationship

This, when those of the EU say it is too hard for the EU to do within 11 months! Who with? America?

With Israel

Back 24 January 2019 Jerusalem Post reported,

Israel is the first country to finalize post-Brexit trade deal with UK. Israel's trade with Britain in was valued at more than £10 billion in 2018. jpost.com

Israel has something Britain wants a lot of - cheap high quality drugs, for it's perennially dysfunctional NHS. On January 21, 2020 as it was known Britain was leaving.

Israel, United Kingdom building 'new strategic relationship'

The Brexit referendum and ensuing uncertainty has seemingly not dampened the trading spirit, with Israel becoming the first country to sign a post-Brexit continuity trade agreement with the UK. jpost.com

In 2018, the UK imported Israeli pharmaceutical products valued at over $2.8b., largely from drugmaker Teva.

Since the June 2016 vote, 65 Israeli companies have established or increased their activity in the UK – creating 1,500 jobs. Today, more than 500 Israeli firms have a physical presence there. During the same period, Israeli investors have injected more than $500 million into the UK.

Beyond Expanding commercial ties, Israel is estimated to be Britain's third largest arms supplier.

There must be some reason that a post EU Britain is attractive. Perhaps there really was no truth in the doom and gloom forecast. Those with money seeking to make money very rarely seek gloom, and will avoid at all costs doom. Jerusalem Post continued:

In just a few years, Britain-Israel relations have been transformed," said BICOM CEO James Sorene.

The arrival of Charles, Prince of Wales, in Israel later this week "highlights the depth of our connection," said Wigan. Charles will participate in the Fifth World Holocaust Forum at Yad Vashem on Thursday, marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. In June 2018, Prince William also visited Israel – the first official visit by a Royal family member.

"His Royal Highness’ visit takes place as we prepare to celebrate 70 years of full formal Israel-UK diplomatic relations, and underlines the exceptional progress we have made," said Israeli Ambassador to the UK Mark Regev. "We are partners whose shared prosperity and security is built on our common values of democracy, liberty and the rule of law – and the visit of His Royal Highness is but the latest cause for us to celebrate all we have achieved together."

Britain, having power over the Mandate of Palestine from 1922 and after doing everything it could in the late 1930's to 1940's to prevent a Jewish state, including arming the Jordanians to destroy Israel in the war of 1948, only reluctantly recognised Israel in 1950. From that point no Royal visited officially, until the Arab attitude to Israel thawed. For all those 70 years after seeking to prevent Israel's independence Britain was reduced in power, until it was forced to gain its own indepedence. It would be more correct to say that finally, after 70 years, Britain has a relationship with Israel. A relationship that is very different to that of 1918-1950: Now it is about trade. A revival of a very ancient relationship, that of the Merchants of Tyre and Israel.

Howl, ye ships of Tarshish (trade): for your strength is laid waste. And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre (Rock = Dover / Gibralter) shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot. Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered. And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. (Isaiah 23:14-17)

To the end:

And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing. (Isaiah 23:18)
