This September 11 it will be 25 years since the world changed: utterly. There was before September 11, 2001 and after. There was no going back. The world did not, and would, not repent. Islam has been a trouble and a fear ever since.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; An evil, an only evil, behold, is come. An end is come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come. (Ezekiel 7:5-6)
This year marks 1/3 of a lifetime, an effective working life, from the never to be forgotten events, Those who lived that day remember it; where they were, what they were doing. The images can not be erased.
This year it's anniversary is bigger.
the Jewish New Year falls this year on the evening of Sept. 11: the 25th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks that rocked America and the world. It’s Shabbat to boot. That means a trifecta of events that will bring the Jewish community together, physically and spiritually.
It also starts the beginning of the Yamim Noraim, the “Days of Awe” dedicated to repentance, spiritual renewal and forgiveness, ending with Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.www.jns.org
We call it Rosh Hashanah, but in the Bible it is the blowing of Trumpets.
Trumpets are blown for memorial (Lev 23:24) gathering of assembly (Num 10:8), in war (Num 10:9) and for gladness of the sacrifices of beginning of months (Num 10:10).
Rosh Hashanah is Yom Hazikaron—the Day of Remembrance in Hebrew—it’s about God’s remembering covenant with us,”
To begin, we clarify that in the Bible Islam is used as a punishment. This has been understood since the 16th century when many wrote about it, explaining it had been long understood. Islam is clearly identified in Revelation 9.
And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. (Rev 9:2-4)
Before the attacks, Australia in 2000 had just staged a trouble free Olympics where crowd behaviour of those from all over the world was as good as the freedom of flight. The world felt there might be a blessing in globalisation. The Y2K bug had not eventuated. Russia was in recess. Europe was uniting.
For those who were born after and didn't know the world before- it cannot be explained- except that we dwelled carelessly. The generation that lived by the Ten Commandments was still setting a good example. But underneath the globalising world was irreligious, godless and loved only the money of world trade. They were, and still are, exploiting people for profit. In some cases massive conglomerate trade millions of copies of a good for few cents profit per item, and in turn manufacture substandard items to save some cents per item.
Since 9/11 world trade has been dealt blow after blow- they didn't even have the courage to rename the rebuilt structures a 'World Trade Centre'. The Middle East has risen in importance and Russia has emerged. China and India are taking greater shares of trade. But since the Ukraine war and the recent Iran war – we have entered a new chaotic phase where all nations are arming for war.
We follow a reading plan, hasn't changed for over 150 years. It often speaks to events in our lives and in the lives of nations. On that day we read 2 Kings 17. Israel is given into Assyrian captivity for “following vanity”, idolatry. Baal worship and for following the ways of the nations.
They built high places, or towers. Yes, towers.
And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.(2 Kings 17:9)
And then they are given to others, called 'spoilers'.
The LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. (2 Kings 17:20)
The attack on 9/11 was not a war for anything the west valued - but people who came to merely destroy and spoil.
We then go on to read Ezekiel 7 where the tone and pattern echoed the events that day,
The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble is near, and not the sounding again of the mountains. (Eze 7:7)
It was a morning.
And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the LORD that smiteth. Behold the day, behold, it is come: the morning is gone forth; the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded. (Eze 7:9-10)
The all-accepting ecumenical who wish that God saves all without repentance – must consider that back in the day the destruction of Israel was more terrible than the events of September 11. There were many miracles that day in New York. Yet even with this warning of the rotten proud 'Big Apple', none have yet put away their pride in their way- Pride is more honoured in that city than before.
The parallel continues as it was to target trade..
Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of any of theirs: neither shall there be wailing for them. The time is come, the day draweth near: let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn: for wrath is upon all the multitude thereof. (Ezekiel 7:11-12)
All were feeble..
All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak as water. They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads. They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.
As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty: but they made the images of their abominations and of their detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them. And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall pollute it. My face will I turn also from them, and they shall pollute my secret place: for the robbers shall enter into it, and defile it. (Eze 7:17-22)
Strangers came to take prey, Islamic foreigners stole planes. After a quarter of a century now we can look back and know there was after it no peace
Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be defiled. Destruction cometh; and they shall seek peace, and there shall be none. (Eze 7:24-25)
Where then is hope? For those who see the times as righteous Lot did in Sodom and as Noah, there is soon deliverance – at the last trump (1 Cor 15:52),
As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. (Luke 3:4-6)
